To ensure that the original legislative intent behind "special protection of female workers' interests" is effectively implemented and to genuinely safeguard the health of female workers, building on the "Sister Shu Female Workers’ Health Public Lecture," and with support from trade unions at all levels, the public welfare project “Sister Shu Female Workers’ Health Protection Program” (hereafter referred to as the “Sister Shu Public Welfare Program”), funded and implemented by Shaanxi Wan’an Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., has begun its implementation this year.
The “Sister Shu Women Employees’ Health Public Lecture Series,” also sponsored by Shaanxi Wan’an Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., has been held across China for several decades, with over 100,000 lectures already conducted. It has been recognized as “China’s Most Persistent Public Welfare Initiative.” As an upgraded version of this lecture series, the “Sister Shu Public Welfare Program” hopes to attract even more public welfare organizations to join in.
The “Sister Shu Women Employees’ Health Protection Program” aims to, through publicity, guidance, and surveys, urge enterprises and institutions to comply with the regulations set forth by relevant authorities and, based on fluctuations in price levels, ensure that each female employee receives a minimum monthly “special protection” allowance. The program also emphasizes that enterprises and institutions must provide this protection in the form of tangible goods rather than simply issuing it as cash allowances, thereby guaranteeing that these funds are genuinely used to safeguard the special interests of female employees. Furthermore, the program seeks to promote high-quality products—products that have been proven effective over time and clinically tested, with no side effects—that specifically serve to protect women’s special needs and enhance the immunity of their reproductive systems. This is done to prevent counterfeit and substandard products from exploiting the “women employees’ special protection” label to harm women’s health.
The “Sister Shu Public Welfare Initiative” believes that whether the provisions in the new “Regulations on Labor Protection for Female Employees” concerning the special protection of female employees’ interests can truly safeguard their physical health hinges on this very point. By doing so, we can also prevent substandard and counterfeit gynecological products from being marketed under the guise of “special protection for female employees,” thereby avoiding harm to their health. It goes without saying that, given the current state of the gynecological product market, such concerns are not entirely unfounded. In reality, some gynecological products originally designed primarily for therapeutic purposes are now being promoted under the banner of “greater health,” misleading many women into using them persistently over long periods—resulting in cases of disrupted acid-base balance in the reproductive system and even muscle calcification, which have become increasingly common.
From this perspective, the emphasis on provisions for “special protection of female employees’ interests” is good news for the vast majority of female workers. However, if there isn’t clear regulation regarding what constitutes appropriate “special protection products for female employees,” such measures could end up harming the physical health of many female workers. The “Jiezi Shu Public Welfare Initiative” aims to contribute its fair share to improving the quality of life for Chinese women through its own efforts. (Du Xiaodu)
